100 Graduates Participate In Graduate Internship Scheme

About a hundred Nigerian graduates have been trained by the Federal Ministry of Finance through the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) on professional skills acqusition in order to improve their job-placement opportunities and to enhance employability of unemployed graduates.

Speaking during the exit program of the last set of the 2015 trainees, the Training Director, Jeffery Adah said the scheme has been able to churn out better graduates who are well equipped with the necessary skills for any work environment as well as empower creative minds to start up business on their own and employ others.

While noting that the training is open to any graduate who intends to widen his skills, Adah stated that the GIS was introduced to tackle youth unemployment thereby reducing youth restiveness in the country.

He added that under the scheme, graduates were placed in firms and organizations as well as selected government agencies, on a one year internship with monthly stipends from the ministry of Finance.

Also speaking, a representative from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Hajia Halima Musa stated that the GIS which was initiated in 2012, is aimed at providing Nigerian graduates with quality temporary work experience that will make them stronger candidates for job openings in the labour market through a one year internship placement.
