Newly crowned African footballer of the year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was given a hero’s welcome on Friday as he arrived Gabon after his triumph in Abuja.
With hundreds of fans crowding the airport to welcome their own who is the first footballer from Gabon to win the prestigious award, the Borussia Dortmond star was hosted to a grand reception at the Presidential Palace by the country’s leader Omar Bongo.
The President also conferred him with the honour, Commander of the National Order of Merit.
As the country gets set to host the next African Cup of Nations, President Bongo believes Aubameyang’s award is a good boost for the nation and their football team in particular.
‘His (Aubameyang) genius is a major asset for the Panthers in preparation for the next Africa Cup of Nations,’ he said in his congratulatory speech....
