The Senate on Thursday ordered the Minister of Petroleum, President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and other relevant agencies to end fuel scarcity in two weeks.
This even as the Petroleum Pricing Monitoring Company revealed that the country has lost N50 billion to pipeline vandals within 10 months.
Also, the Upper Chamber demanded for details of subsidy claims of N413 billion and names of the marketers involved subsidy payment.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream, Senator Uche Ekwunife, made this known during a meeting with the Ministry of Petroleum and other relevant agencies over the current fuel scarcity in the country.
According to Ekwunife: “We are giving you a target of two weeks.
“The price discrepancy must stop and we are also mandating the Minister of Petroleum, head of agencies to stop the scarcity within two weeks.”
The Chairman in the opening remarks had said the committee will look into the issue of subsidy payment and malfunctioning refineries in the country.
On the current fuel scarcity, Ekwunife lamented that the country had not had it this bad for a long time like this.
In her reaction, Managing Director of PPMC, Esther Nnamdi-Ogbuche, blamed the problem of scarcity on economic sabotage, promising that the agency will not relent in fight against the sabotage.
