Donald Trump is open to requiring all US Muslims registering to carry special IDs

Republican presidential candidate frontrunner Donald Trump has said that Muslims in the US should be placed under increased surveillance to "learn about the enemy".

Trump has already stated that in the wake of theIsis Paris attacks it makes sense to shut down mosques in the US, which he described as "hotbeds" of terrorist activity.

In an interview with Yahoo! News on Thursday, the property mogul said he remained open to the idea of registering US citizens who practice Islam in a database or require them to carry special identification papers:

We’re going to have to do things that we never did before. Some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule.

Warrantless searches just for Muslims shouldn't be ruled out, the billionaire added:

Certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. We’re going to have to do things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.

We’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely. We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.

Under President Obama's administration the US is re-homing approximately 11,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2017.

But any refugees resettled under Obama, Trump said, would be deported on his watch.

They’re going to be gone. They will go back... I’ve said it before, in fact, and everyone hears what I say, including them, believe it or not.

But if they’re here, they have to go back, because we cannot take a chance. You look at the migration, it’s young, strong men. We cannot take a chance that the people coming over here are going to be Isis-affiliated.

Since the outbreak of war in 2011, the US has so far taken in just 1,500 of the four million Syrians who have fled the conflict. Many of those who have made it to the US are families with young children, and more than a quarter are thought to be older than 60.
