Quack doctor caught in Oyo state

A 26 year old fake doctor, Akilapa Johnson has been arrested by Oyo State Police command for procuring a life threatening abortion for 23 years old Barakat in Ibadan.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade disclosed this while parading Johnson along with 14 other suspects at the command’s headquaters in Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.


According to him, Barakat was lured,and counselled to abort the five month old pregnancy.

The abortion was carried out in the suspect’s one bedroom apartment which served as clinic located in a slum at Sasa, Ibadan. Shortly after the abortion, victim developed serious complications which resulted in her being admitted at the UCH where she is presently lying ill. Investigation revealed that the fake doctor, an Ordinary level holder, was only trained as a paramedic nurse and a first aider.


“In spite of his limited knowledge of medicine, the suspect had consistently treating unsuspecting patients who mistook him for a qualified doctor. Exhibits recovered from the suspects are; two pieces of stethoscope, two pieces of plaster of Paris bandage, four pairs of hand glove, injection and syringe” he said


The suspect, Johnson, who admitted to the crime said he had his training as a paramedic nurse in Port harcourt.
“It was one Azeez that brought Barakat to my house for the abortion. It was after the pills she took that she developed the complications. I am regretting my actions now. I am only looking for a means of survival.”
