Police in Carlsbad, California, have charged a 22-year-old babysitter and her 22-year-old boyfriend with multiple felonies after the couple allegedly molested two 7-year-old girls in San Diego's North County, PEOPLE confirms.
Samuel Cabrera Jr., who lives in Carlsbad, and Brittney Mae Lyon, a resident of Escondido, were arrested last week and are being held on $2.6 million and $100,000 bail, respectively.
A police spokesman tells PEOPLE Lyon was hired to babysit the two victims in this case; the girls are not sisters.
Lyon, the spokesman says, allegedly brought the 7-year-old victims to Cabrera's residence on numerous occasions. There, she allegedly videotaped Cabrera molesting the girls left in her care. She also helped undress the children before they were abused.
"Cabrera reportedly engaged in sexual molestation of the children while Lyon filmed the acts," reads a statement from Carlsbad Police.
One of the victims is from Oceanside and the other lives in Escondido. Investigators believe there may be additional victims, and they're now working to try to identify them.
"We are equally disturbed and outraged that adults would victimize children in this way," Carlsbad Police Chief Neil Gallucci in a statement to the media. "The safety and welfare of children are our top priority and we are committed to presenting a comprehensive case to the District Attorney's Office."
Both pleaded not guilty to eight felony charges – including conspiracy to molest, child molestation, forcible lewd acts on a child and kidnapping for the purposes of molestation – during their arraignments Friday at San Diego Superior Court in Vista, California, according to a police statement.
One of the victims was described by a police spokesman as "very developmentally delayed."
If convicted, Lyon and Cabrera face more than 90 years to life behind bars. They'll be back in court for upcoming hearings on July 19 and July 21.
It was unclear Tuesday whether either defendant had retained a lawyer.
