“Eat rats or grasshoppers,” Malawi president tells starving countrymen

The South African country of Malawi has been facing acute shortage of food for a while. No thanks to poor harvests resulting from floods and dry spells.

But no worries, the country’s president, Peter Mutharika, has discovered a genius way for millions of starving Malawians to survive during this period.

He simply asked them to start eating grasshoppers and mice instead of waiting for maize which is in short supply.

He said this during a political rally on Saturday where he admitted that his government was under a lot of pressure to find solutions to the hunger problem ravaging the land.

“I have held from the traditional leader’s speech complaining about hunger issue but my government is doing everything to save Malawians from the hunger,” responded the Head of State..

“But why should Malawian die with hunger when we have different of things to eat? Muzidya mbewa, zitete, komanso chinangwa!” he suggested.

Half of Malawi’s population will be affected by hunger because of the drought and flood that has ravished the country.
