female ticketing officer with Main One Cable Company in Lagos, western Nigeria, Joy Nakpodia, 38, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing her employer’s N2, 807,198.
The accused was arrested by the police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos, and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a four-count charge of felony to wit, forgery and stealing.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Julius Babatope informed the court in-charge No. O/44/2015 that the accused, a ticketing officer committed the offence in between January and June, 2015 at 3B Ligali Ayorinde Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Babatope told the court that the accused forged her employer’s signature on two tickets which were for trips to Dubai and Abidjan.
He said the accused obtained the sum of N302,700 from a customer, Oladepo, and pretended to buy a ticket for him to travel, but instead converted the money to her personal use.
Babatope also alleged that the accused stole the sum of N2, 807,198 belonging to her employer, Main One Cable Company.
He noted that the offences the accused committed are punishable under sections 374, 285(7) and 312 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the crime in the open court, and Magistrate Mrs. J. O. A. Adepoju admitted her to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adepoju adjourned the case till 21 January, 2016 for mention, while the defendant was taken to Kirikiri Prisons pending when she will fulfill her bail conditions.
