Ebira groups back Bello, condemn protests

The Ebira Renaissance Group (ERG) and Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) have declared support for the nomination of Alhaji Yahaya Bello by the All Progressive Congress (APC) as replacement for the late Prince Abubakar Audu.

Spokesman of the groups, Pastor Joseph Suleiman, at a joint press conference in Lokoja yesterday condemned the spate of protests witnessed across Kogi East Senatorial District and the ethnic campaigns following the death of Prince Abubakar Audu.

According to him, all the three major ethnic groups in Kogi (Igala, Ebira and Okun) have a common heritage and brotherhood, maintaining that the issue of ethnic superiority as suggested by the recent protests should not be allowed into the consciousness of the people.
“We in the ERG and EYC take particular exception to the ethnic dimensions which the present political logjam has triggered in the state.

This is a sad reversal of the little gains we have achieved in the past 24 years.
“In this wise, we condemn in entirety, the recent spate of protests in eastern part of the state. This, if not checked immediately is a sure road to anarchy. We therefore call on the state and federal government to be alive to their responsibilities and protect law abiding citizens.”
